Australian Essential Oils Guide 2020

Australian Essential Oils Guide 2020

What Are Essential Oils?

Essential oils are the byproducts of extracting the various compounds from australian plants by pressing or steaming the various roots, seeds, flowers, bark, leaves or fruit. Plants use these scents to ward off predators, to attract insects for pollination and other self-serving functions. In order to create a single 15ml bottle of 100% pure essential oil, it can require several pounds of raw plants to capture the essences of the plant. But distilling these gifts from the earth, brings the benefits and enjoyment into your home.

The History of Essential Oils

So you might be asking, where did essential oils come from? Their history is quite old and remarkable, stretching all the way back to 4,500 B.C. to the era of Pharaohs in ancient Egypt. Egyptians began to cultivate plants and harvest their essential oils to be used in mummification and embalming. Around 400-500 B.C. on the battlefields of Greece, soldiers carried Myrrh essential oils to counter infections. Hippocrates known as the (father of medicine), documented the effects of over 300 plants and said, “a perfumed bath and a scented massage everyday, is the way to good health.”

In 1910, French chemist René Maurice Gattefossé was working in his perfume laboratory when an accident occurred and caused burns to his hands and arms. After rolling around in the grass to extinguish the flames, he treated himself with lavender essential oil. Almost immediately, his pain began to subside and he healed at a remarkably quicker pace than previous injuries without the usual scarring. After this incident, he began researching the healing properties of essential oils and in 1937 released his book “Aromathérapie”, which was the first use of the word Aromatherapy.

Essential oils have had their roots in medicine for centuries and their effects have been well documented along the way. Even today, many pharmaceutical drugs are based on natural substances and essential oils that can aid in a wide variety of illnesses and health problems.

How To Use Essential Oils

The last time you visited a spa, you probably noticed the scent of Tea Tree or Eucalyptus in the air that helps one to relax and take in the moment. You can have these experiences at home as well! To enjoy essential oils, we recommend utilizing diffusers, ionizers or oil burners, but there are a variety of uses in your home to take advantage of.
Diffusers are a great way to enjoy aromatic essential oils. By placing essential oils in water atop a ceramic bowl above a candle in the traditional method or with an electric diffusers is the modern method to diffuse the essences of nature.

You can dab a little directly on your body, but avoid sensitive skin areas. The most common areas are the top of the head, behind your ears, neck and the soles of your feet.
If you need to freshen up a specific area, like a gym bag or garbage can, you can simply place a few drops on a cotton ball and place inside.
A few drops on your carpet inside your car will do wonders to make your car smell amazing.
Essential oils are essential to massages! Add a few drops of Lavender Oil or Cedarwood to a carrier oil as a moisturizer or massage oil.

Essential Oil Safety

Remember that essential oils are concentrated and very potent, so please use them sparingly to begin with. It’s very easy to add a few more drops if you don’t achieve your desired results. Here are a few tips we recommend to safely use essential oils.

Don’t use essential oils topically prior to going out in the sun. Certain oils can dramatically increase your skin's sensitivity to UV light.
If you have any irritation from use directly on your skin, it’s recommended to apply V-6 Vegetable Oil Complex or pure vegetable oil to the affected area to dilute the essential oils themselves.
Do not use essential oils during pregnancy. There has been limited research into the effects of essential oils on developing fetus, it’s best to avoid use while pregnant.
Do not put essential oils on sensitive skin areas around the eye, ears, or nose.
It is always best to consult your doctor prior to using essential oils directly on your skin.

These are a few areas to be careful when starting your essential oils journey, but we hope our essential oils guide helps you become a pro in no time!.
